n honor of Mother's Day, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection's (DEP) Florida State Parks will offer 50 percent off day-use admission for any group that visits a state park with their mother on Sunday, May 8, 2011.

"We are pleased to offer this special discount for state park visitors who take the time to honor their mothers this weekend," said DEP's Florida State Parks Director Donald Forgione. "If she is an outdoors person, history buff or would just enjoy some relaxation, a state park is the perfect place for a memorable Mother's Day."

Florida's state parks can offer mom a stroll through ornamental gardens, space to bask in the sun on sandy white beaches, a shaded trail to spot wildlife and native plants or a quiet picnic bench to curl up with her favorite book. Whatever mom's fancy, there is a wealth of opportunities for families to pamper and treat her for Mother's Day.

A mother's heart always has room to love a child. One of the greatest joys of my life is being a mother. I raised two lovely daughters who now are grown up and married. It is important for me to be there to laugh and cry with my daughters. I understand how they needed me to help them through the ups and downs of childhood so one day they would become independent young adults working to achieve their dreams.

Mother's Day in Cuba

HAVANA — The second Sunday in May is Mother’s Day, at least in my country – Cuba. I say this because I also have dear mothers in Argentina, but their date is celebrated in October. What a coincidence, because regardless of the month — the observances take place in springtime on both halves of the Earth.

Maybe you didn’t notice it, but springtime is moist, like your eyes whenever you remember your mother if she’s no longer close to you, or simply when she’s with you but perhaps not like you would like, or maybe because your eyes are so sensitive like the very act of love and they become moist simply from the emotion of seeing her or thinking about her.

On the occasion of Mother’s Day on Sunday, the elderly woman spoke with ACN at the farm where she was born on February 2, 1885.

With admirable clarity and energy for her age, Candulia, as close family and friends call her, asked for “all the good” and “a lot of health” for all mothers, and expressed her wish for wars to end.

She declared herself to be a happy mother, for the love she receives from her son Eleduvildo, her six grandchildren, and the rest of her descendants.

Last year, while speaking about her family, Candulia explained that Eleduvildo became a widower when his children were little, and that she helped him bring them up.
